PR Ran Editorial: Murdoch Insider Pins Blame in News of the World Demise
Daily Mail
There was fury at News International when journalists discovered 200 staff of the News of the World were to be sacrificed to save the career of Chief Executive Rebekah Brooks. One Murdoch insider said: "Relationships with PR firms such as Matthew Freud`s Freud Communications were so close that if they called the newsdesk with a story, you had to run it. If you told them it wasn`t a story but just a piece of PR fluff, they would phone Rebekah`s office, the reporter would be told off and the story would go in as Freud wanted it. She sold the soul of The Sun and the News of the World to PR snake-oil merchants ...

Analysis: Negative Jobs Data Hits Stocks, But Earnings Optimism Remains
Reuters
U.S. stocks dropped on Friday and Nasdaq looked to end an eight-day winning streak as a weak jobs report dashed hopes the economy was emerging from a soft patch, though the start of earnings season next week kept investors engaged. U.S. employers hired a mere 18,000 workers in June, the Labor Department said, the fewest number in nine months and far below economists` expectations for a gain of 90,000. The unemployment rate rose unexpectedly in June to 9.2 percent, the highest since December, from 9.1 percent in May ...

3BL Media
SC Johnson reached an agreement on two lawsuits regarding use of its Greenlist logo on U.S. Windex products. The company will stop using the logo in its current form, and the parties have agreed to an undisclosed settlement. The suits were brought in federal court. SC Johnson`s use of the logo was intended to signify that the Windex products had achieved the highest internal ratings according to the company`s patented Greenlist process. Covario
Covario issued its quarterly Global Search Advertising Spend Analysis, which found Q2 growth in paid search ad spending among high-tech and consumer electronics companies slowed to 7% versus the same period last year. The analysis attributed the slowdown to advertisers` robust Q1 spending against fixed first half budgets, leaving less to invest in paid search in the second quarter--particularly in the U.S. where year on year spending for the quarter was down 5% ...
