| Surf the News Wave: Quick PR Tips for Cashing in on Day 2 News
By Victor Cruz, Principal, MediaPR.net
A big challenge for PR people is how well they surf a news wave. Like the waves crashing off Rincon, Puerto Rico, news cycles break suddenly and dissipate gradually. Tidal-wave news is easy to spot: Michael Jackson, BP oil rupture, Japan's tsunami, Bin Laden, Sony and Michael's data breach all tidal waves easy to spot. (I wanted to add the Royal Wedding to this list but we all saw that one coming ashore miles away.)

| `Road-Rage` Celebrity PR Guru Lizzie Grubman Sued for $400,000 by Former Staff
Daily Mail
Celebrity PR Lizzie Grubman, famous for running down 16 people with her Mercedes SUV in a fit of rage, is being sued by former staff members who say they are owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid wages. Grubman, 42, served just 37 days in jail for ploughing into a crowd of people outside a Hampton`s nightclub in 2001 after the bouncer asked her to move her car from a fire lane. The self-styled PR princess was charged on 26 counts for crimes including second-degree assault, driving while intoxicated, and reckless endangerment. Her father is famed Manhattan entertainment lawyer Allen Grubman. Now both her long-time chauffeur/bodyguard and hairstylist have filed suits claiming, the apparently cash-strapped, Grubman has not paid their wages. Former driver Tomas Gonzalez, 60, who filed against his ex-boss in Manhattan federal court on Friday, told The New York Post that Grubman currently owes him $400,000. He said: `She took me for a ride. `I worked for her for 10 or 12 hours a day for the last 12 years. She told me people weren`t paying her and she couldn`t pay me.` Three months ago a hairstylist filed a civil suit against Grubman demanding payment for a series of hair and beauty treatments. Although Grubman has declined to comment, a source close to her has denied she has money troubles and claims the charges made against her are untrue ...

| Marketing Data: Facebook Growth for May Disappoints; Google and Yahoo Stay Course in Search Rankings
Marketing VOX
Facebook reached 687 million monthly actives by the start of June, according to Inside Facebook Gold data service - but the data also shows that new users continue to be drawn primarily from those countries that are relatively late in adopting Facebook. Inside Facebook noted this trend last month as well. Also, it reported that growth was lower than normal for the second straight month in a row, which is unusual. Usually it grows by 20 million new users in a typical month, based on traffic of the last twelve months. In May it gained 11.8 million users. In April, that number was 13.9 million, Inside Facebook reports. - ON A DIFFERENT DATA NOTE - Google Sites led the explicit core search market in May with 65.5% of search queries conducted, a 0.1 percentage point increase, according to comScore`s monthly comScore qSearch analysis of the U.S. search marketplace. The May 2011 qSearch data represents the second month of results including the impact of Yahoo! Search Direct, Yahoo!`s new feature that delivers search results in real-time while users type their query. Google was followed by Yahoo! Sites with 15.9% and Microsoft Sites with 14.1% . Ask Network accounted for 2.9% of explicit core searches, followed by AOL with 1.5%. ...

| Security Update: Sony Hackers Now Break into Senate Computers
Reuters
It was confirmed Monday that the Senate`s website had been hacked this past weekend and that it has ordered a review of all Senate computer sites. "Although this intrusion is inconvenient, it does not compromise the security of the Senate`s network, its members or staff," a Sergeant at Arms Office official said. "Specifically, there is no individual user account information on the server supporting senate.gov that could have been compromised." The revelation came after a loosely aligned group of computer hackers calling themselves Lulz Security said they broke into the Senate`s computer network. Lulz Security, who have hacked into Sony`s website and the Public Broadcasting System, posted online a list of files that appear not to be sensitive but indicate the hackers had been into the Senate`s computer network. "We don`t like the U.S. government very much," Lulz Security said at the top of their release. "This is a small, just-for-kicks release of some internal data from Senate.gov - is this an act of war, gentlemen? Problem?" ...

US online ad spending is set to have healthy increases through 2015, including a peak gain of 20.2% this year, but online ad spending worldwide will grow at a stronger rate throughout the period, eMarketer estimates. Worldwide spending increases will be in the double-digits through 2015, as online ad spending grows to more than 22% of total media ad spending. ...
